Los Angeles, CA:  During the 1978-1979 basketball season at Boston College, a points shaving scheme was taking place under everyone’s nose. It would later go down as the infamous Boston College Fix, but anyone involved could tell you that they were never able to fix a thing about it. Players were paid to beat the spread, by not winning or losing by the required margin in order for high profile gangsters to bet on the games for great profit. However, the games just couldn’t be fixed.

Paulie Mazzei, the notorious “Pittsburgh Connection” in Goodfellas (1990), hatched the plan in Boston after being approached by one of the players and a mutual friend for his ability to play conduit to the gambling and criminal underworld. What followed was a mismanagement of the motley crew that eventually led to the downfall of Jimmy “The Gent” Burke (played by Robert De Niro in Goodfellas) and his associates from the Lucchese crime family.

Steel Titan Productions is currently developing both the feature film and documentary retelling the incredible life story of Paulie Mazzei, his life of crime and the scandal that changed college sports as we know them. This is the first joint project for directors Cayman Grant and Juan Carlos Saizabitoria. Grant is an accomplished actress and writer/director whose credits include The Social Network and His Good Will. Saizabitoria gained acclaim with his documentary, East of Havan, which chronicled the Cuban hip-hop movement.
