Pittsburgh, PA: Hollywood and some of the Steelers’ shining stars will help Pittsburgh kick off the holiday next week. CHRISTMAS IN COMPTON, co-produced by locals Paula Gregg and Susan Burig, opening in theaters November 9th, will have a special screening at the Hollywood Theater Dormont on November 16th at 6pm. Many of the cast, Steelers and other pro-athletes will be in attendance to welcome film-goers and to raffle-off signed Steelers memorabilia. Attendees will enjoy a complimentary vodka bar sponsored by White Diamond Vodka, and a free combo pack with popcorn, candy and a soda, thanks to Spirit Pen Promotions, makers of “BlackOut,” the under-eye makeup for all pro-athletes. In the spirit of giving back, the organizers, in conjunction with Blazer Capital Management, have chosen for the proceeds of the night’s raffle to benefit local foundations and the Red Cross, in support of Hurricane Sandy victims.
Co-Producers Paula Gregg and Susan Burig always knew they wanted to share their work with their hometown, but they didn’t want it to be about them. “We wanted to have an effect, to give back to a city that has rallied around us. This is where our film roots began” said Gregg, who just finished producing Pennsylvania’s first ever Public Service Announcement Commercial to raise awareness of the benefits of the PA Film Tax Credit. Gregg and Burig chose the Hollywood Theater Dormont to host the event because of its dedication to showing independent films. “They are one of the few standing, single screen theaters left in Pennsylvania and they are a non-profit organization tied into our very industry,” explained Gregg.
Confirmed attendees include cast members: Miguel Nunez, Porscha Coleman and Omar Gooding. Confirmed Steelers include Charlie Batch, Maurkice Pouncey, Chris Rainey, Larry Foote, James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley. Also confirmed, Josh Harrison of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pascal Dupuis and Matt Cooke of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Russell Okung of the Seattle Seahawks and recording artist Jasmine Villegas. Other surprise guests may include Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Benji Grinberg of Rostrum Records amongst many others. A limited amount of tickets will go on sale to the general public November 9, 2012. For sales and updated information visit www.thehollywooddormont.org. ABOUT CHRISTMAS IN COMPTON
Filmed entirely in Compton, CA during the summer of 2011, CHRISTMAS IN COMPTON is an endearing David versus Goliath comedy featuring Keith David (CLOUD ATLAS and DEATH AT A FUNERAL) and Eric Roberts (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES and THE EXPENDABLES). The film centers on Big Earl (David), the owner of a Christmas tree lot, and his son Derrick, played by Omar Gooding (VH1’s “Single Ladies” and ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy”) fighting to save their lot after a deal gone sour. Father and son team up with the community to fight back against a sleazy music executive (Roberts) who’s trying to swindle Derrick out of a lucrative recording contract by threatening his father’s business. Together father, son and the city of Compton learn that Christmas miracles happen to those who believe.
